My treasure

What is my treasure?

I can say my treasure is my experiences in the past. What I have learned so far through a wide variety of experiences have been reflected inside me and created what I am now. It doesn’t matter whether those experiences are good or bad. All experiences have had good impacts on me, and I like the way I am. Let me share one of my stories.

This is a story when I traveled in Australia. I visited there 5 years ago. One day, I found a sandwich shop, attracted by delicious smell. The staff member seemed to have a nervous temperament with no smile on his face. Even so, I wanted to eat something there. So I said “Could I order?” He didn’t say anything and started to ask me some questions. Actually, I couldn’t understand what he said because of his accent and speed. However, I couldn’t say “Pardon” because I easily expected he would be angry if I did so.

Plus, I could easily expect that there were many chances that I could repeat “Pardon” until he would be angry. Then I came to a decision that in either case, he would be angry so it was smarter not to ask him anything. That’s why I continued to say “yes” for every question he asked. I noticed my attitude made him irritated, and he looked as if he thought I was crazy. Even so, I continued to say yes because there was no other way I could do at that situation. I was overwhelmed by his looks.

After this weird communication, I realized that he had asked me what ingredients I wanted as sandwich fixings. Too late! I had said yes to all ingredients. Guess what happened to my sandwich. Big and expensive sandwich! It was terrible.

As I recall now, this is a funny story. But at that time, I was so serious. Anyway, through this experience, I learned many things. Since then, I have changed my mind, and have become to try to speak my mind in similar situations while traveling in foreign countries. In addition, I have decided not to evaluate people by their faces. (If I had asked the above staff member honestly what I had in mind, he might have behaved differently.)

Trough this experience, I have changed a lot. Now I have got a lot of brass balls. Plus, I think I can handle any situations by myself. All in all, any experience inspires and “upgrades” me.

That is why my treasure is my experiences. My experiences are jewels. My experiences make me shine so do jewels.
